Thomas Godfrey JACOBSON (Service Number 579) was born in Blayney NSW on 12th November 1888.  He joined the Permanent Way Branch of the NSW Government Railways as a labourer on the Western Division in October 1912.  In April 1913 he was made a fettler on the Dubbo-Nyngan line, and in September 1914 on the Dubbo- Coonamble line.  He was released from duty to enlist in the AIF, at Liverpool in February 1915. At that time he was stationed as a fettler at Gilgandra.

He was sent to Gallipoli in August 1915 with the 19th Battalion. He wrote to a friend from the trenches a letter published by the Narromine News & Trangie Advocate on 30th November 2013. In part he said:

‘I thought I had a fairly good trip coming over on the old Ceramic but we only had three weeks in Egypt and then we came here and I can tell you it is just lovely to hear the bullets whistling around you and over your head all day and shrapnel bursting everywhere…’ 

He was killed in action on 17th September 19
