Charles returned to Tasmania from active service due to wound inflicted 21/12/17 (gunshot wound to his right shoulder). He joined the Tasmania Police force on 1 July 1921. He passed his exam to qualify as a Sergeant in the Tasmania Police force on 31/8/34. Appointed Supervisor of Totalisators 25 Feb 1935. Granted Queen's coronation medal on 2 June 1953. Retired from police force 14 February 1962.
Wife Ellen (Nell) Berryman nee Harding.
Lived in Launceston when discharged from active service. Later moved to Flinders Island where he was a police officer and went in a small boat around all of the islands as part of his work. One of his three daughters (Iris) Joy met my father-in-law H. Roy Grist during Charles' time at Flinders. Later Charles moved to Hobart where I met my husband who was living in his house at the time.
Charles was a friendly and good natured person who enjoyed his life and always tried to do the right thing.
He received the British War Service Medal 2/8/21. Victory medal 25/12/23. His medals and some of his papers have been donated to QVMAG.
