Promotions/War Service: Left Alexandria, Egypt, per SS Transylvania on 29 March 1916, disembarking at Marseilles 4 April 1916. On 15 July 1916 joined Battalion in France. Admitted to hospital in France, with tonsillitis, on 20 December 1916, rejoining his unit on 1 February 1917. Then admitted to hospital again in France, 3 February 1917, with trench foot, being transferred to England from Rouen, France, on 11 February 1917, and admitted to Wandsworth Hospital, London, 13 February 1917. He was then transferred to Tooting Military Hospital, London, on 22 February 1917. He was discharged on 12 May 1917. On 12 August 1917 he was appointed Acting/S/Cpl. From 24 November 1917 he attended a course of Instruction at the Army Signal School in Dunstable, England and qualified as an Instructor and Assistant Instructor of Signalling. On 28 November 1917 he was promoted C.R.Cpl. Reverts to Private on 18 January 1918. On 30 January 1918 he was promoted to Temp/Corporal at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England. On 25 February 1918 he was retransferred to 8th Battalion on M.O. to Brigade Signal School. On 30 April 1918 he was on command at Brigade Signal School. He stayed in England with the 1st Training Brigade until his return to Australia, leaving England on 10 April 1919.
Place of Wounding: Trench Foot, 3 February 1917, France.
Fate: Returned to Australia per HMAT A7 Medic, on 28 May 1919. He married Margaret Edith Gash, 24 November 1920, St Mary's Catholic Church, Hamilton, Vic.
