William John Boyer was born August 19, 1893 in the small rural town of Westbury, Tasmania. William (Bill) worked as a farm labourer and handyman before enlisting. He enlisted when 22 years old in May 1916 and embarked from Tasmania on August 9, 1916. Wounded in action at the second battle of Bullecourt and then again wounded in the battle of Menin Road, Bill was nursed back to health and returned to his unit.
The third time he was wounded in action was to be his last and he subsequently died of the wounds inflicted to his buttock and upper left leg two days later on 10 Jan 1918.
Mourned by his wife Emmeline, his young daughter Emmeline Joan, his parents Mary and George and his seven siblings - Thomas, Mary, George, Frances, Caroline, Maria and Henry.
In November 2016, his great niece (Henry's grand-daughter) sprinkled soil from his family home at Dexter St, Westbury on his grave in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, at Steenwerck, France.
