Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Percy Painter came out to Australia in about 1912 from Old Basing, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. He was working as a station hand in Walbundrie NSW when he enlisted.

He was reported missing in action, Belgium, 12 October 1917, which was confirmed 5 March 1918, posted as 'Killed in action, 12 October 1917'.

There were many reports of him being killed by a shell in the Red Cross Wounded and Missing files. Nearly all of these reports speak glowingly of Painter as a fine soldier and good man. Many say he would have been quickly been made an officer had he lived.
