Son of W.E. Sheehan formerly Quinlan of Romsey, Victoria.

Prior to enlisting he had been a member of the Romsey Rifle Club. 

Commenced return to Australia on 31 August 1915 aboard HT Wiltshire disembarking on 25 Spetember 1915

In 1932 James was residing in Albury, NSW
