Died on this date – 18th May.... Gunner John Thomas Alexander Wise was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1891. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 17th October, 1916 as a 24 year old, single, Locomotive Fireman from Launceston, Tasmania.

Gunner Wise embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on RMS Osterley on 14th February, 1917 with 25th Howitzer Brigade, 10th Reinforcements of Australian Field Artillery & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 11th April, 1917. Gunner Wise was admitted to Ship’s Hospital on the voyage to England from 22nd February until 28th February, 1917.

Gunner Wise was marched in to Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery (R. B. A. A.) at Larkhill, Wiltshire from Australia on 11th April, 1917. He was sent sick to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 10th May, 1917.

Gunner John Thomas Alexander Wise died at 7.55 p.m. on 18th May, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire from Acute Appendicitis & Uraemia.
Gunner John Thomas Alexander Wise was buried on 22nd May, 1917 in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
