Stanley served in France and made the supreme sacrifice at Butte-de-Warlancourt on 26 February 1917.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, 43 Ridge-street, Moore Park, have been informed that their son, Private Stanley Frederick Smith, was killed in action in France on February 26. Prior to  enlisting he was employed by Messrs. Wunderlich Ltd., and was a crack rifle shot, being a member of this firm's rifle club
