Biography contributed by Naomi Pugsley

Little Nan, did not speak much of her father.  She was the youngest child living with Samuel and his third wife Annie Armstrong, but wasn't allowed to interact with her family as she suffered from TB.  Biography is sorced from historical research.

Samuel was born 22 April 1886, in New Lambton, New South Wales to Henry and Elizabeth Waring, who had 8 children.  His mother passed away when he was 19 years old.

In 1910 Samuel married Jospehine Ridley and they had 3 children before he enlisted in 1916.  His 3rd child, Galdys May Waring, died at about 1 years old on the 28 Sept 1916, while he was still serving in England.  His other 2 children, Alexander and Annie, were living with their Aunt Emily (Samuel's sister) during this time.

Samuel served for 3 years and climbed the ranks from Private to Lance Corporal to Temporary Corporal to Corporal.  During this time he was in Tel-el Kabir and Alexandria - Egypt, aboard the S.S Clan McGillivray.  His records state that he also embarked per H.M.T. Arcadia, but that was torpedoed and sunk before his embarkation date.  London and Folkestone - England, aboard the S.S. Onward. Marseilles and Etaples - France.  There was mention of being wounded in 1918, but I haven't founf any details.  Finally returning to Sydney, Australia from Southampton, England on board the S.S. City of Poona in March 1919.

Samuel's first wife Josephine had an affair, and had a son, while he was at the front and they were divorced in 1921. She later passed away in 1923.  He then married Elsie Marguerite Pierre de Closets Derrey in 1923.  They had 4 children before she passed away in 1932, when their youngest daughter was not quite 1 year old.  This same baby died 4 years  later from Diptheria.  Samuel married his third wife Annie Veronica Armstrong in 1936.  She passed away in 1946.

The majority of Samuel's life was in Forbes, NSW as a labourer.  He passed away 5th August 1954 at the age of 68.
