"Private Leslie Clegg McMurdo (4563, 31st Battalion) was born in Stockton-on-Tees, England, and came to Australia at the age of 16. He was working as a farm labourer when he enlisted in the AIF on 21 September 1916. Just a year later, on 26 September 1917, Leslie was killed in action at Polygon Wood. He is buried in the Buttes New British Cemetery, Belgium. Leslie was 17 years 5 months of age." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
