William Morris

William Morris was born in Riverstone, NSW and lived in Marsden Park.

Before he enlisted in the AIF he was employed as a tailor.

William was wounded in action at Pozieres on August 14, 1916, suffering "shell shock". He was sent to the No.5 General Hospital in Rouen to recover. On October 29, 1916, he was evacuated with heart-problems to the 2nd Northern General Hospital, Leeds.

After returning to his unit William was again wounded in action (GSW thigh) on 09 Apr 1917 near Bapaume, wounds from which he died later that day. He is buried in the Bapaume Australian Cemetery, France.

William Morris was honoured in the Riverstone and District Honour Roll, Blacktown Soldiers' Memorial and Riverstone and District War Memorial.

"...3836 Private William Morris, 3rd Battalion of Riverstone, NSW. A tailor prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 30 December 1915. He was wounded in action on 9 April 1917 near Velu, France. Later that day, he died of his wounds at the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, France, aged 23.
