Samuel's parents were Wilhelm Felschow and Annie Sonnerberg of Moodlu, Woodford, Queensland. He was 21 years, single, a sawyer and living with his parents at the time of his enlistment in May 1915. On 7 November 1925 he married Sadie Lucy Rowe and they lived in Caboolture, Queensland where Samuel worked as a carpenter.
