Samuel Murdock was born in Warooka, South Australia in approximately December 1894. He had 5 siblings: Alfred, Mrs. Barrett, Dan, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Clara Thomas. Raised in Warooka, South Australia, he worked as a farm labourer until he enlisted for World War 1 on the 20th of July, 1915. He was 20 years old when he enlisted.

Soon on the 18th of November, 1915, he embarked on A2 "Geelong" at Adelaide. He was a Private in the 32nd Infantry Battalion. He had been transferred to the 15th field ambulance on the 12th of May, 1916 and was admitted to 8th field ambulance on the 7th of June, 1916. He re-joined the battalion soon after, both times. On the 19th of July, 1916, he was wounded in action at Fromelles in France with a gun shot wound on his left leg. He went missing on the same day. He was reported as prisoner of war in Germany of the 20th of July, 1916. He was discharged, and left through "Nevasa" on the 25th of April, 1919.

 

He married Nellie Irene Murdock, and had two children of his own named Shirley and Maureen. He died on 17th October, 1986, when he was 92 years old.
