Douglas Hodgman served at Gallipoli from September 1915, was wounded in action at Pozieres, shrapnel to the right thigh and evacuated to England for several months. His older brother 2026 Private Vincent Lade Hodgman 3rd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse died of disease 5 August 1902 age 20, returning on a troopship from the Boer War in South Africa. Douglas was only 9 years of age at the time.
