Condolence letter

Robert Sutton's platoon officer wrote a condolence letter to Robert's parents dated 3 May 1918. He descibed Robert as a "kindly, quiet lad" well liked by the men in his platoon. He was killed when an artillary shell burst above his position in the trenches in the Somme in 1918.

In Memory

Robert Sutton was the third eldest of ten children born to Horatio and Annie Sutton. He was my grandmother's brother. His loss was greatly mourned in the family and each year, for many years, his family would insert 'In Memory' notice in the local paper.
