Once a South Australian fruit grower, Robert Ward Brison enlisted for the Australian Imperial Force at the age of 27. Originating from Bristol, England, Robertlived in Renmark prior to his enlistment. His father and Mother, Alfred Brison and Elizabeth Scarnell, stayed behind and lived in England while Robert moved to South Australia. Robert Ward Brison passed away on March 22, 1979, in Renmark, South Australia. He was born on December 8, 1887.
Robert’s unit was the 3rd Australian General Hospital, a unit of the Australian Army Medical Corps, 1st Reinforcement. THe enlisted on 15th May 1915 and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 15 June 1915. Robert duly completed the AIF enlistment form, known as the Attestation paper. After serving overseas for four years, he returned to Australia on the 12th of April 1919 and married Amy Margaret Read. He lived the rest of his life in South Australia.
Robert passed away on 22 March 1979 in Renmark, aged 91, and was buried at Enfield Memorial Park in Adelaide. His will included a significant bequest, AUD 2,000 at the time, to support Quaker causes in South Australia. This became the Amy & Ward Brison Bequest within the Australia Yearly Meeting.
