Jack Dwyer was a packer from Brighton, Victoria prior to enlistment. His parents were Dennis and Elizabeth Dwyer, Exchange Hotel, Brighton, Victoria.

Prior to enlisting, he was employed at Andrew Jack, Dyson and Co., Collins Street, Melbourne, who were stationery and printing merchants.

His youngest brother, 3796 Pte. Edmund Dwyer 46th Battalion AIF, died of disease in Egypt on 5 June 1916, aged 21.

His eldest brother 116 Sergeant Daniel Dwyer, of the 23rd Battalion, was badly wounded at Pozieres but returned to Australia in 1919.

Jack Dwyer arrived on Gallipoli in July 1915 and was mortally wounded during the heavy fighting near Lone Pine on 9 August 1915. He died at sea from bomb wounds to the head two days later.
