Son of John and Mary Ann FRANCIS, Bulumwaal, Victoria.
Two brothers also served in WW1: 4498 Pte John FRANCIS, 6th Bn, killed in action, 4 October 1917; 3989 Pte Reginald FRANCIS, 8th Bn, died of wounds, 20 September 1917.
