Gilbert Mann enlisted at 19 years of age during March 1916, and whilst he was at sea on his way to England his two older brothers lost their lives.
2486 Sergeant William Mann 49th Battalion AIF killed in action at Mouquet Farm 3 September 1916, aged 21.
397 Private Alec Mann 8th Light Trench Mortar Battery killed in action 12 October 1916, aged 24.
They were the sons of William Benjamin and Fanny Mann of Home Hill in north Queensland.
