Son of James and Mary JEFFERY, Pine Lodge Railway Station, Victoria
Pte. Clifford Jeffery Killed.
On Monday evening the Rev. E. Smith conveyed to Mr and Mrs Jas. Jeffery, of Pine Lodge, the sad news that their son, Pte. Clifford Jeffery had been killed in action on October 9th. Pte. Jeffery, who was close on 21 years of age had been on active service for about two years and was awardcd a good conduct stripe after 15 months of service. Another son, Arnold, is at present in hospital in England. Gunner Clifford Pascoe Jeffery enlisted on 4th July, 1915, at the age of 18 years. Sailed on 27th September in the same year. He was in Egypt five months. He landed in France on 27th March, 1916, and fought in France 19 months; served several months in the infantry, and then joined the Ist section of the 6th Machine Gun Company. He was engaged in all the battles encountercd by his division and participated in the capture of Baupaume. He was with the regiment that first entered the city at its fall. He was wounded at Pozicres during August, 1916. On being granted 10 days leave in August last, he paid a visit to Scotland, staying most of thie time in Glasgow.
