William Albert Anderson served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. Originally from West Brunswick in Victoria he found himself in Queensland when he enlisted in the Boer War in 1900 as a Private S.N. 25 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen.
In June 1915 he was living in New Soth Wales and working as a boilermaker when he enlisted for WW1 at Liverpool, NSW, serving as a Private S.N. 2278 in the 4th Infantry Batallion AIF. He suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm while serving at Gallipoli in August 1915. The wound resulted in restricted use of the arm and he was returned to Australia where discharged in May 1916.
