Herbert Connor's elder brother 7212 Pte. Charles Edwin Connor 21st Battalion AIF had been previously killed in Belgium, 4 October 1917, aged 26.
The following article appeared in the local papers shortly after Herbert Connor's death.
"The many friends of Mr. T. Connor will regret to hear of the death of his son, Herbert Stephen Connor, which occurred at the Stationary Hospital, Egypt, on 7th July. Herbert, or 'Bert,' as he was generally known, drove the small car for three years between Buchan and Nowa Nowa, and his death will be regretted by a large circle of friends, both young and old. He was a general favorite, nothing being a trouble to him if he could do a good turn to anyone. The cause of death was pneumonia. His elder brother, Charlie, was killed in action some few months ago, and much sympathy is extended to Mr. Connor and family in their sad loss."
