James Harkness Knight was one of 21 Children born to parents James Harkness Knight and Maria Jane Smith. He was born in Toora on 14/10/1894. He lived in a log cabin on the " Grip" in Toora. His parents initially moved to Toora and took up 15 acres in the new area developed by the Government. His parents initially farmed cows, however they later diversified into fishing. James and his brothers were fine fisherman, smoking fish and selling fresh fish locally and all the way to Melbourne. On his return from the war he married Alice Mary Donovan in 1920. In 1924 he was farming at Jeetho West. The couple had 5 Children, 3 Daughters and 2 sons. James died on 28th of Dec 1950 aged 56 years. He left a wife and 5 children. 2 still dependants. He is buried at Fawkner Memorial park.
