Son of John Munney Oakman and Selina Ellen Oakman of Humula, NSW later of Kyeamba, NSW.
Brother of Reuben Munney Thornet Oakman who was killed in action on 3 May 1917 while serving with the 17th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial: Elmore Bruce who returned to Australia on 25 July 1919 having served with the 4th Light Horse Regiment.
