Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
August Ost was the son of German Lutheran immigrants to Queensland. His slightly older brother Henry had enlisted during in 1915 and was killed in action near Mouquet Farm with the 49th Battalion during August 1916.
August enlisted well after Henry’s death, during April 1917, and didn’t join his unit on the Western Front until early 1918. He was reported missing in action on 12 August 1918, before it was confirmed he was killed in action on that date.
August and Henry were the sons of August Friedrich Wilhelm and Emilie Laura Ost of Mount Sylvia, near Gatton, Queensland. They were a pioneering family in the district.
