Biography contributed by Daryl Jones

Son of George MARTLEW and Harriet nee HILLIER

When Arthur Stanfield Martlew was born on 30 July 1892 in Mundulla, South Australia, his father, George, was 37 and his mother, Harriett, was 32. He married Ivy Hazel King on 17 March 1927 in Bordertown, South Australia. They had four children during their marriage. He died on 28 January 1962 in Adelaide, South Australia, at the age of 69, and was buried in South Australia.

The Buckingham School Arthur attended was the name of the original farm of Mr. David Jones, coming from his home county in England, Buckinghamshire. In 1884 Mr. Jones gave one acre of land for the building of a Church and School.  The school opened in 1885 and continued spasmodically until final closure in 1956 when buses took children to the Mundulla School.  Only 308 students attended the school between 1885 and 1956.
