Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
William George Dray was born in London, England but came to Australia with his family when he was seven years of age.
He was said by his mother to be trained as a bushman, shearer and rider. On his roll of honour form she noted. “Of a quiet disposition but prone to anger at any injustice. He left to fight for Australia just 20 years after his arrival from London. A good bushman and fearless rider. He was very sober and a good Christian.
His younger brother was killed in action. He had an uncle, John Dray, who fought under General ----, was promoted and gained the D.C.M. in the Imperial Army.”
