Son of Alfred Foster and Rose Jane Elizabeth Foster nee Hodge of Renmark, SA. Brother of William Charles Foster who was killed in action on the 2 April 1917 while serving with the 50th Battalion and is buried in the Noreuil  Australian Cemetery. Special Memorial, Row A, Grave 18. Alfred Henry Foster, Gerturde Myrtle Louisa Foster, Elizabeth May Foster, Herbert George Foster, Elsie Jane Foster, Eunice Mabel Adeline Muriel Foster, Vera Caroline Foster, Leonard George Foster and Ellen Jane Foster

On 24 March 1918 he was declared illegally absent

Commenced return to Australia on 23 December 1918 on board HT Argyllshire disembarkd on 1 Febuary 1919
