Norbert Gilroy O'Reilly, 25th Battalion A.I.F. died of wounds received at Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke, Belgium and buried here in Etaples Military Cemetery in France.

Norbert Gilroy O'Reilly was born on 30th March 1891 at Long Swamp Creek, Kanimbla Valley, New South Wales, Australia. He was the third son of |Peter O'Reilly and Jane McAviney. By 1902, Norb was working away from home for extra money to assist the family. In 1910, the five eldest boys, including Norb, travelled to Queensland to cut out homes from virgin country, whilst the remainder of the family moved temporarily to Megalong Valley, west of Katoomba, relocating later to the selected land in the McPherson Range, in the Scenic Rim region of south east Queensland.

Norb O'Reilly is an Anzac who served in World War One.
 Norbert was the first in the family to 'answer the call', on 16th October 1916, and enlist in the Australian Imperial Force for service overseas in the First World War. Ped and Mick followed soon afterward. Norb was allocated to the 25th Australian Infantry Battalion, then in action at the Western Front. The battalion acted in a supporting role at the second battle of Bullecourt. It was part of the 2nd Division's first wave at the battle of Menin Road, Belgium on 20th September 1917.

Norb O'Reilly died of wounds at France during The Great War.
Three days later, Norb died of wounds gained at Menin Road. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He is commemorated on the Beaudesert War Memorial, Beaudesert, Queensland. Norbert Gilroy O'Reilly's name is located at panel 105 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
