Bruce was the son of David and Margaret Isabella Kerr [ nee Latter]. His elder
brother John also fought in World War One. Bruce was attached to the Dental
Unit whilst serving as a Private at Mitcham from 7 December 1916 to 16 July
1917. He was a Lance Corporal attached to A Company from 1 August to 22
October. Bruce embarked HMAT A14 Euripides at Sydney on 1 May 1918,
reaching Liverpool, England on 2 July. He was appointed a Corporal on 16 July
and was attached to the 9th Training Battalion in England from 2 July to 17
July. On 19 August he was sent to the School of Instruction at Berkshire. Bruce
returned to Australia on the Persic on 27 August 1919 and was discharged on
19 September.
