Son of Andrew Julius Johnson and Mary Ann Johnson of 'Brickfields', Port MacQuarie, NSW. Brother of John Oscar Johnson who was killed in action on 11 April 1917 while serving with the 13th Battalion and has no known grave. Name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memoril
