'RETURNED SOLDIER INJURED.
TOOWOOMBA, September 18. To-day, when working at the railway quarry at Cliffdale, below Spring Bluff, on the main line, Reginald Turnbull, a returned soldier, met with an accident. He was breaking stone with a hammer, when a piece of stone flew off, and struck him on the left eye, inflicting serious injuries. He was conveyed to the Toowoomba General Hospital.
Turnbull, who was one of Toowoomba's first volunteers, was attached to the 2nd A.L.H., and saw a lot of service at Gallipoli. He was one of the men invalided some few months ago owing to sickness, and was subsequently discharged. On inquiry at the hospital tonight it was ascertained that Turnbull's eye is very seriously injured, and he may lose the sight. Turnbull, it is stated, was to have been married on Saturday week.' from The Brisbane Courier 19 Sep 1916 (nla.gov.au)
