William Raymond Algie was born on the 13th of November 1891 in Edithburgh, South Australia, by his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Algie. William grew up in Yorketown, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia (most likely went to Yorketown Area School). William was a farmer before joining the war. Algie was a Methodist.

William enlisted on the 10th of February 1916. He was assigned to the 34th Battalion. He was 24 years old, 5 feet 8, weighed 133 pounds, and had dark hair and brown eyes. He embarked from Australia 9th June 1916 to Southampton in the UK.

On the 25th of September 1916, he proceeded overseas to France. He was hospitalised with Mumps from 15th December and developed tonsilitis while getting treatment and was not discharged to duty until 10th January 1917. During his service, William was promoated to Lance Corporal, Temporary Corporal and then Corporial

William left to come back to Australia on 20 May 1919.

William later married Ivy Algie (nee Ivy Hewton). On the 17th of December, William and Ivy had a baby daughter named Ina May.

Sadly, William Raymond Algie passed away on the 27th of May 1959, with his wife Ivy Algie joining him on the 22nd of August 1982.
