The 3 Size brothers William, John and Frederick fought in World War One. William served in the Middle East throughout the war. He fought at Gallipoli until the end of 1915. On 9 January 1917 he was wounded in the right hand and side at El-Arish and was admitted to the 24th Stationary Hospital on 12 January and the 14th Australian General Hospital on 17 January. William transferred to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment on 11 February. He was admitted to hospital with enteritis and debility on 24 July 1918. William embarked the H.T. Orari at Port Said on 16 May 1919 and was discharged on 26 August.
