93 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 12th March 1930 (exactly 11 years after discharge from the A.I.F.), Private Alfred Clark, 4th Battalion (Reg No-6967), traveler from 3 The Boltons, off Church Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and Joan Street, Adamstown, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 53. BAPTIST-H SW. 26.

Born at Gillingham, Kent, United Kingdom about 1876 to Thomas and Sybella Clark; sister, Emily Bertha Clark of 6 Regents Road, Gillingham, Kent, United Kingdom; husband of Edith Clark nee Bevan (married 1919, Newcastle, N.S.W., died?), Alfred enlisted on the 1st October 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Granted leave to England from 16.2.1918 to 5.3.1918.

Wounded in action - 8.5.1918 (SW or GSW left arm or elbow, slight).

Invalided to England 21.5.1918.

Admitted to hospital 24.6.1918 (influenza).

Alfred was invalided home with rheumatism on the 1st February 1919, being discharged on the 12th March 1919.

I have not located Mr. Clark’s name inscribed on any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Alfred’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
