Biography contributed by John Edwards

"PRIVATE W. COX is the second son of Mrs and the late Chas. Cox, of Cornish Town, Stawell. He was 24 years of age, and a native of this town. He was the sole support of his widowed mother, who is deeply affected by the loss of an affectionate son. In the athletic world the fallen soldier came into great prominence as a long distance runner. He had several good wins to his credit, including the mile at Stawell in 1913, and good stakes at Ballarat and Bendigo." - from the Stawell News and Pleasant Creek Chronicle 24 Jun 1915 (nla.gov.au)
