Eric McSwain

Eric was born in Dandenong Victoria in 1895. His father was Charles James McSwain who died in Perth in 1949. His mother was Annie Eleanor Bruton 1872 -1955. Annie also died in Perth.
Eric had brothers Norman Bruton McSwain born 1900 in Guildford in Perth and Kenneth Charles McSwain .
By the outbreak of war, Eric was working as a labourer. Prior to his enlistment on 23 Feb 1916 Eric had spent 12 months in the 13th Engineers before being discharged.
Eric was sent to Victoria for his training and embarked from there aboard the HMAT :Bakara" A41 on 4 Nove 1916.
He was at Moascar as a machine gunner with the 10th Light Horse Regiment.
He was discharged Sept 1919.
Eric returned to Australia and married Gladys E A Smith in 1924 but sadly Gladys died a year later.
