77 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 8th June 1943, Private Charles Coleman Schrader, 35th Battalion, labourer from Hunter Street, Newcastle West, New South Wales and King Street, Newcastle, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 6 NE. 33.

Born at Gray Street, Wickham, New South Wales on the 12th October 1876 to John Frederick R and Ellen Schrader of "Stanmore", Hooker's Avenue, off Laman Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, Charles enlisted February 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Mr Schrader returned home January 1918, and was discharged the next month.

His name has been inscribed on the Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour and the Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1).
Sadly, Mr Schrader’s life ended tragically - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article167616772, and is resting within a curbed and inscribed gravesite with no headstone, so April 2020 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
