Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

He was 35 and the son of John James and Emily Jeal of Silwood, Hythe, Kent.

He is remembered on the Hythe War Memorial in Kent, England. The memorial stands in The Grove, Prospect Road, Hythe and is in the form of a small winged victory holding a small version of a medieval cinque port vessel while standing on an orb with mosaic relief. The supporting column is square in shape with a carving showing twelve servicemen. There is a lion's head on each side at the base that were originally fountains. The names from both World Wars are listed on a wall behind the memorial. The memorial was unveiled on 16th July 1921 by Earl Beauchamp and the dedication was by local clergy and other dignitaries. The memorial cost £450 and the sculptor was Mr. Gilbert Bayes. Reports of the unveiling are to be found in "The Hythe Reporter" of 16th and 23rd July 1921.
