Son of Charles Edward Underhill and Louisa Ann Underhill nee Williams of Vicerage Street, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England

Previously served with the Nuneaton Territorial Force for three years.

Commenced return to Australia on 20 April 1919 aboard HT Boonah disembarking 8 June 1919 at Melbourne then transhipped to Sydney aboard Sardinia disembarking on 11 June 1919 then transhipped to Brisbane for discharge
