Biography

"ANOTHER DIGGER HEARS THE FINAL CALL.

The World War claimed another victim on Monday, when Mr. William Edwin Savell passed away at the District Hospital, aged 42. Mr. Savell served nearly three years with the Third Battalion A.I.F. and was severely gassed. He suffered greatly during the past few years and had spent two years in Graithwaite. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George E. Savell, he was born at Bowral and lived there all his life with the exception of the time spent at the front He was highly respected by all who knew him, and his fortitude under affliction won the highest admiration. Mr. Savell was married at Newcastle in 1920, and is survived by Mrs. Savell and five young children. Two brothers are resident in Melbourne. Two sisters (each Mrs. Hayes) are married to two brothers at Dapto; other sisters are Mrs. A. Cupitt, Bowral, and Miss Eva Savell, Sydney. The funeral will move from St. Jude's Church at 2 p.m. to-day (Tuesday)." - from the Bowral Southern Mail 18 Oct 1938 (nla.gov.au)
