Alfred was age 21 when killed, previously a saw mill hand in Stratford Gippsland Victoria.
Just prior to going to France he was found guilty, of conduct to the prejudice of good order & military discipline in that he at Moascar Camp at about 1900 8/6/16 by attending a school where gambling was being conducted, facilitated. awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No 2.
No details on his death, posted missing, 19 July 1916 until a Court of Enquiry, (13 months later) held in the field, 29 August 1917, pronounced his fate as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.
