He was 40 and the husband of Margaret Lawson Thomson, of Edward St., Osborne Park, Perth, Western Australia.His widow subsequently lived in 7 George Street, Leith, Scotland.

He is shown as R.T. Thomson on the Jedburgh War Memorial.
