Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W.
57 years ago today, on the 26th November 1968, Private Daniel George Carr, 15th Battalion (Reg No-7693), labourer from Harrisville, Queensland and James Street, Hamilton, N.S.W. (1960), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 72. ANGLICAN 3-223. 18.
Born at Childers, Queensland on the 17th July 1896 to Daniel and Joanna Carr nee Flynn; husband of Pearl Ardell Carr nee Pevy, married 5.2.1923, Queensland, died?, Daniel enlisted on the 8th August 1917, age 21, at Brisbane, Queensland.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 31st October 1917.
Disembarked Devonport, England 26.12.1917.
Admitted to hospital 5.3.1918 (pleurisy).
Wounded in action - 12.6.1918 (GSW right foot, severe).
Invalided to England 9.7.1918.
Admitted to hospital 10.7.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 23.9.1918.
Daniel arrived home invalided on the 26th November 1918, not being discharged until the 25th July 1919.
Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, returning home, etc.
Mr. Carr’s name has been inscribed on the Harrisville Memorial Gates and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
I have placed poppies at Daniel’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
