Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Sergeant Rochstein, of the 7th battalion, who is among the wounded, is a son of Mr. Rochstein of Daylesford. He received his primary education at the Daylesford State school, and afterwards went to Melbourne High School. He joined the staff of the State school at Footscray as junior teacher in 1912. He was one of the first to volunteer for active service, and because of his smartness as bugler, was quickly promoted to sergeant bugler in charge of the battalion band. He had previously been a sergeant in the senior cadets.
