“News was received at Goondiwindi on Monday that Private A. L. (Les.) Carter had been gassed whilst in action in France. This is the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Carter, of Goondiwindi, to appear in the casualty lists, one having paid the supreme sacrifice. Another has been returned unfit for further service, and the third is at present in hospital in England, suffering from wounds.” - from the Darling Downs Gazette, 20 June 1918 (nla.gov.au)
