Son of Mrs R Smith, MacAuley Street, Albury, New South Wales
Canon Bovan explains that the recently reported death of Private J. Smith, of the Expeditionary Forces, provides another case of mistaken identity. From information now available it is quite certain that the soldier alluded to, whose regimental number is 1456, is identical with Private George Groom, who enlisted at the outbreak of the war from West Australia. The deceased's mother resides in Spencer street, Albury. The late Private Groom was well known in this district as a footballer.
