Clarence Smith was born in Carlton Victoria to David and Esther Smith.  Clarence worked for the tramways and after returning from WW1 worked many years as a tram conductor.  Despite his serious injuries he was able to have a long career.  He purchased a home at 72 Truganini Rd Carnegie and married Vera Hiho.  They had a daughter Maureen.  Clarence struggled with his health and eventually passed away in 1971 aged 76.  Clarence was dedicated to his service.  He was a cadet prior to enlisting to fight in France.  He was also a member of the corps of commissionaires after the war.
