Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Arthur Freeman came out to Australia from England in about 1911 with his brother Frederick Freeman. Arthur was working as an electrical engineer in Brisbane, Queensland where he enlisted. His brother Frederick was living in Perth, Western Australia and they were probably unaware of each other’s movements. They were killed in action within weeks of one another at Pozieres. Arthur, the younger brother, was reported missing then killed on 5 September 1916, aged 23, just a month after Frederick’s death, age 27.
Arthur’s remains were discovered near Mouquet Farm during 1919 and his identity disc was returned to base.
The brothers were the sons of James Ellis Freeman and Hannah Freeman, of 13 G, Peabody Buildings, Rodney Rd., Walworth, London, England.
