KILLED IN ACTION.
PRIVATE HAROLD HAVERFIELD.
The sad news was conveyed on Tuesday night to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haverfield, of Camp Hill, that their eldest son, Private Harold Haverfield, was killed in action in France on 25th August. Private Haverfield was 21 years of age, and a native of Bendigo and was a grandson of the late Mr. R. R. Haverfield, who was for many years editor of the "Bendigo Advertiser." Private Haverfield and his brother Lance-Corporal Frank Haverfield, were in the first division that went to France. He contracted pneumonia in the trenches last winter, but returned to the lines in spring, and was in the, same Battalion as Lieut. W. M'Shane, M C., andPrivate L. Fly, who were recently reported as killed in action. Before enlisting, Private Haverfield was employed at Towlins and Simmie's flourmill. A brother, Lance-Corporal Haverfield, is at present on furlough in London.
